Everyone knows
that in order to make it in Hollywood, most
actors and actresses have to pay their dues.
Some have to start out in crappy B-movies
in the hopes of being discovered, while
others languish in the world of porn and
become famous only to a select audience.
Of course the world of pornography today
offers a lot more to some of its top stars
in the way of fame and fortune, it was a
much different world back in the 1970's.
Jumping into the 'way back machine', let
me introduce you to an unknown actor by
the name of Sylvester Stallone. The guy
was big, beefy and had a way with monosyllabic
line delivery. In other words, he was perfect
for the world of porn. Eager to get some
kind of work, the young Stallone accepted
and offer of $200 to spend two days dallying
with a variety of chicks on film.
Originally titled "The Party at Kitty
and Studs", this odd little piece of
pornographic history quickly disappeared.
That is, until the success of "Rocky"
brought Sly the notoriety he always dreamed
of.

Eager to jump on the champ's bandwagon, "The
Party at Kitty and Studs" was re-edited (to
make it a little less hardcore) and re-released
as "The Italian Stallion." It still
didn't do really well except as a novelty. Yet
the infamous video still exists and is getting
a whole new lease on life as Cinema Epoch is releasing
a brand new transfer that was taken from the original
35mm negative. So before I get into the rest of
the review I will mention that the overall video
and audio looks fairly good, even if the film's
participants… don't.
In "The Italian Stallion", Sly plays
Stud… a……. uhhh…. stud,
who shares an apartment with his girlfriend Kitty
(Henrietta Holm). The pair (and I mean Kitty and
Stud, not her 'pair') share an interesting sex
life full of bad dialogue, beatings with a belt
and even a little bloodsucking (from a cut). However
even with as much sexual attention as Stud gets
it’s still not enough. He brings home a
bevy of beaut… uhh…. women to help
alleviate his stress. Al of this brings us to
the party of the original title, which allows
for quite a bit of rowdy sexual excess.
While the movie does act as a novelty in that
we get to see Sly involved in some unusual sexual
escapades, but beyond that it doesn’t really
offer a lot for those who want their porn films
a little more explicit. Then there's the matter
of the cast. The combination of low budget and
the fact that it was made in the 70's promises
viewers that the naked bodies won’t be all
that hot. And it delivers in that promise. You
won’t find any Jenna Jamison types here.
Everyone's fairly average looking, as if you invited
your own neighbors over to get naked. (Not my
neighbors though… they're rednecks and they'd
look a lot more like naked Wilburs… if you
catch my drift.)
The one thing missing from this little oddity
of a DVD is any kind of special features. There
is a trailer which includes the film's editor
talking about Sly's fame, but that's it. I was
kind of hoping for an interview with the Italian
Stallion talking about how proud he is of the
feature finding a new life on DVD (wink). Still,
it is kind of a fun and funny movie to watch for
it’s 70's kitsch and the really young Rocky
letting it all 'hang out.'
