Watching an
Adam Sandler is like a box of chocolates.
You never know what you’re going to
get. Well, then again, you definitely know
you’re not going to get something
great… but at least palatable. This
is the case with his newest venture, “Just
Go with It.” It’s palatable,
formulaic, silly, kinda enjoyable…
but just as easily forgettable.
Sandler stars as Danny, a divorced plastic
surgeon who has found that despite the horror
of having an ex-wife, he can use the fact
that he has one as a way to attract new
women into his life… or at least into
his bed.
Of course, he has no desire to re-marry,
until he meets Palmer (Brooklyn Decker),
the woman of his dreams. Unfortunately,
Danny has gotten a little too good at lying,
and when she discovers a wedding ring the
lies get deeper.

That’s where his assistant Katherine (Jennifer
Aniston) comes in. And her kids. And his cousin
Eddie (Nick Swardsen). Danny has to produce his
ex-wife, his kids, etc… and before you know
it “Just Go with It” becomes so entrenched
with lies and deceit that it would take a million
spiders to untangle the web. And just when you
think it has gotten deep enough, Katherine starts
spinning her own lies when she meets up with an
old college ‘friend’ (Nicole Kidman).
So what we have here is an old fashioned romantic
comedy full of twists and turns, all leading up
to one very predictable ending. But it’s
not the ending… it’s the journey.
And surprisingly Sandler and Aniston play well
enough off of each other to make this comedy not
so horrible to watch.
The Bluray release offers up a good picture,
but it really doesn’t ‘pop’
until the latter half of the movie moves to Hawaii
where the colors are definitely more vibrant.
The audio mix is done well enough so you don’t
miss any of the dialogue, the music and ambient
sounds never overpower.
The release of “Just Go with It”
has a good number of special features, including
deleted scenes (11 additional minutes of them
on the Bluray), three featurettes (9 more on the
Bluray!!), and some commentary. The Bluray Combo
pack also includes a DVD of the film.
