You know, not to get to political here,
but I love anything that bashes George W.
Bush and his gaggle of criminal….
I mean his cabinet. The guy has been a one
note joke since he was originally appointed
to office (you know…. when he wasn’t
actually elected…), making one blunder
after another. And then he somehow found
himself in office a second time, and this
it was through an honest to gosh election.
Of course, this second round at least made
me feel better about the American people.
I used to think 90% of them were idiots,
but that proved to me it was only 52%.
Being that I feel this way about our Bozo-In-Chief,
it should come as no surprise that I enjoyed
Comedy Central’s animated series,
“Lil’ Bush.” In this gloriously
silly little series, we are introduced to
Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and the whole gang…
as children in the White House. It’s
like “Muppet Babies” or “Tiny
Toons” but without smart characters.

Here, the first George Bush is still President
and the “Our Gang” of G. W. hang out
at the White House, go to Iraq, and some even
go to hell (which is so oddly fitting).
In many ways, you could even compare the series
to “South Park”, but the humor isn’t
as sharply satirical. The writers come up with
some good bits, but they don’t always hit
the mark. But even the lesser of the episodes
are not for the faint of heart. These characters
might be little kids, but their adventures run
the gamut of lesbianism, abortion, murder…
well actually, they kind of act like the real
Bush Administration. But what makes the series
even more fun for me is that they are not one-sided
against George W. They give equal time to most
of today’s political players, showing them
all to be the ignorant losers that they are.
But even though the series is riddled with adult
humor, there are moments that are just darn cute.
Like each episode’s musical interlude, where
the gang pretend to be major rock bands. They
dress up and perform as Kiss and the Grateful
Dead, as well as a host of others. This is just
so darn cute.
The DVD for the 1st season gives us 6 episodes
(each made up of two parts) and a handful of special
features. The best of these is an extra unaired
episode that delivers a seething diatribe on the
state of veteran’s health care centers.
This one SHOULD air for all the points it makes.
There are also commentaries on each episode by
various members of the cast and crew, and these
include some guest commentators by the likes of
Jerry Springer, Tucker Carlson, and Ralph Nader.
The commentary by Nader alone is worth the price
of the entire set. He goes off on a tirade about
George W. that beats just about anything I’ve
ever heard about the guy. There is absolutely
no love in Nader’s heart for our current
temp in the White House.
You’ll also find a brief ‘Tour’
of the white House by Lil’ George, a behind
the scenes featurette and a table read with the
cast. These last two would have been really good
features, but the camera work is really bad and
makes them much less fun than they should be.
Whether you love or hate George W., I urge me
fellow Americans to pick up a copy of “Lil’
Bush: Season 1” for their viewing pleasure.
You’ll either laugh at the realistic hysterics
of the characters or spit venom at the show’s
creators for daring to defile your ‘God’.
Personally, I’d give anything to be able
to sit and watch the show with George W. himself…
but then again I’d probably get tired of
explaining the jokes.
