Before you all
go rolling your eyes, remember that we were
all kids once and that we enjoyed shows
that our parents thought were stupid, silly,
or infantile. The difference with me is
that I still enjoy shows that are stupid,
silly or infantile as long as my six-year
old daughter gets some fun out of them.
Disney on TV over the recent years has delivered
a lot of ‘silly’ shows to our
kids, which is why so many of them are fans
of Hannah Montana. Admittedly I’ve
watched “Hannah Montana” with
my daughter and as goofy as the show is,
I really like it. And the recent movie was
actually VERY good as far as family fare
goes.
A couple of other shows that are popular
with the young’uns are “Wizards
of Waverly Place” which involves a
lot of cheesy magic and “The Suite
Life on Deck” which is a continuation
of the older “The Suite Life of Zack
and Cody.”

Recently Disney thought it would be a good idea
to do a big crossover between the three shows
and the idea turned out to be so popular that
it was decided to release the three episodes as
a ‘fill length’ event DVD entitled
“Wizards on Deck with Hannah Montana.”
Made up of the three individual episodes, “Wizards
on Deck with Hannah Montana” bring the casts
of all three shows together in a kind of “The
Love Boat” style of storytelling. Same cruise,
three different adventures, all three casts. It
all starts with “Wizards” as Justin
(David Henrie) wins an essay contest and takes
the family along on a cruise. Of course comedy
ensues as the gang gets into all sorts of goofy
trouble. Then we follow up with “Suite Life”
as Hannah Montana shows up, much to the excitement
of EVERYONE. In the last episode, Hannah has troubles
of her own as she loses her mother’s lucky
anklet.
There are a couple of special features, including
a ‘How to Write an Essay” with David
Henrie (which is actually kind of helpful!) and
a featurette with Zack, Cody and Jason Earles
talk about how much fun it was to do the crossover
(complete with bloopers).
“Wizards on Deck with Hannah Montana”
is certainly not the thing awards were made for
and isn’t for everyone. Some adults will
find the comedy to be a bit inane, but that’s
only if they’ve lost their imagination.
Try watching it with your kids and you’ll
find good reasons to laugh. I know I did.
