Alien: The Director's Cut
Rating - 5 out of 5

So this past Friday (10/24, not 10/31 ... because I'm retarded and forgot to finish this review last weekend), I got a chance to go see a sneak of the re-released sci-fi classic "Alien", this time, with some footage never seen before in the "Director's Cut". It's been a good six or seven years since I last saw this movie, but even so I saw a few changes here and there. Still one of the best sci-fi movies I've ever seen.

However ... something I saw that intrigued me. In the scene where they first enter the ship with all the eggs, there's some being sitting in a giant chair. Seeing it last night, I noticed something I'd never noticed before.

I thought for sure it was changed, in this release ...

So naturally I get home and pull out my original tape, from the 1979 release. And I checked that scene. Just about blew my mind.

The being sitting in that giant chair ... is unmistakeably, a Predator. I had thought they maybe changed it to tie in the upcoming AvP movie. But it looks like this "battle" has been planned from the beginning. That's so awesome!

Beyond that, I won't bother writing a detailed review. If you've seen the original, you already know what happens ... and if you've got the 20th anniversary release of Alien on DVD, or the Alien Legacy box set on DVD, you can see all the added scenes (plus a few more) by checking out the "Deleted Scenes" section. And if you haven't seen the original ... well than shame on you. Get your ass to the nearest showing.

Oh yeah, they had a quick teaser of the Alien vs. Predator movie too. Despite the "hard core" Alien and / or Predator fans ... I'm extremely excited about this movie. Check it out at avp-film.com There's not much there yet, but you can see the teaser, as well as a short behind the scenes documentary which hints at some of the content in the movie.

This is as close to the perfect sci-fi movie as you'll ever get. Definitely a 5. Go see it while you can at the theater ... it's such a better experience than sitting at home.
