Better than the second, but a far cry from the first.

JP3 was good... let's get that out of the way right at the start. I really enjoyed the movie... even the kid played a good part.

But it was a very predicable movie as well. Many times something would be shown, or said, and I was thinking "That's going to come into play later..." and Joe kept leaning over at the same time, and saying almost the exact same thing. In that aspect, it was a bit of a disappointment, because it was basically laid out for you... though there were a couple nice surprises.

Obviously the big thing was a new Super Dinosaur. They made no reservations about announcing that at nearly every possible opportunity. So it was no surprise that the first dinosaur that is shown... is the biggie. I only wish they'd kept the classic formula... you know, the one where they used REAL dinosaurs. Not just made up ones.

Story is fairly simple... by now, the island, Isla Sorna, is well known for it's population. There are now boat tours that go out to the island, and people parasail around the island... thought apparently it's highly illegal... as the establishing shot indicates. On one of these parasail excursions appears to be a father and his son, they go up, and they're looking for dinosaurs, when the boat gets lost in a thick fog below and gets jerked around a few times. After clearing the fog, we see the top of the boat is shredded, and nobody left onboard... and it's heading for a cluster of rocks. So to avoid dying, they detach from the line to the boat, and glide out over the island.

We later find out, that the boy was actually with a family friend... his parents are looking for him, and in doing so, they trick Dr. Grant into being their "guide" for a flight over Isla Sorna... because they love adventure. However, things get bad when Dr. Grant finds out their true intentions of landing on the island to look for their son.

What happens next is pretty much expected... dinosaurs attack humans, humans die.

The movie makes no apologies when it comes to it's blatant foreshadowing. It is forgivable, however, because while the foreshadowing is blatant, it's not overdone. It's also quite apparent that the budget for this film, was considerably less than the previous 2. Much less CGI work, and much more animatronics. This doesn't take away from the movie much... there are a few times where it just looks a little too rubbery.

The cinematography was top notch. Especially the underground / Pterodactyl cage sequence. Oh yes.

But it was definitely a worthy successor to the original. My only real disappointment with this movie is how short it was. 85 minutes goes by REALLY quick when you're having a good time. Other than that minor disappointment, I'd definitely recommend this movie to anyone. Whether your a fan of the series or not... this movie probably won't make you change your mind about the other two... but it'll definitely offer you a wild ride through the Isla Sorna jungle. Just, remember... when you hear a cellphone... it's time to run :)
