Welcome.

Saturday night, Myself, Crimson, DPW, Joe, and Ozzymadeo were at my buddy Kyros' house precisely to watch what could possibly be one of the biggest "sport" events of the year.  What follows will be the thoughts of Crimson and myself, in regards to what we witnessed.

Crimson :
Well, see, I was GOING to say "there is a God!" after Tyson lost, because it was my most earnest wish that Tyson get destroyed (which he was) in order to shut him up. Of course, his after-match comments to Lewis pretty much revealed that the whole circus surrounding his insane comments were basically just hype. I felt a pang of this when I saw that both Vince McMahon and The Rock were in attendance for the match, and I can only say that I am... I don't know. Upset, perhaps.

Tyson's humongous, definitive pummelling at the hands of Lennox Lewis aside, do we really need another sport to qualify as "Sports Entertainment"? I have absolutely nothing against the WWE, but they're really all we need. More than a few people will be upset if boxing goes the way of "entertainment" rather than "actual sport," and while I could never be considered a boxing fan, I'd be one of those people.

Anyway. Lennox Lewis kicked Tyson's ass, and there was really no contest. Tyson was outboxed, and he barely landed any good hits the ENTIRE TIME. So, hats off to Lewis. Just lose the british accent.

Gallion :
For the longest time, as a boxer, I've been a Tyson fan.  As an out of the ring sideshow, I've been in and out.  His dealings with women which include rape, sexual harassment, lude comments, etc. etc., are truly disgusting and vile to me.  A lot of people will condemn him for life for those things, and they have due reason, but for the things he has done in his past, at least one thing you can say about him is that he actually did time.  There are others out there who've committed the same or worse and have never even been inside a city jail, much less a penitentiary for multiple years.  Don't get me wrong, that doesn't make it right, but he did get punished, which is something positive out of the whole thing.  Now, Tyson's psychopathicisms and odd comments have always been amusing to me.  Some people think he's deranged and demented for saying the things he has.  I have a question to ask... why?  Do you truly think the man was serious when he said he wanted to rip Lennox Lewis' heart out and eat his children?  If you did, then you need help, not Tyson.

Mike Tyson is smarter than a lot of people give him credit for.  After many bad outings with the media, he learned their ways and how to play them, how to use them as a tool to make himself and others around him money and publicity without truly hurting anyone.  Every time he spoke, people gathered around him like one would to a train wreck, or, for that matter, one waiting to happen.  Boxing needed a bad guy and Tyson was the perfect fit and he played the role so well that the media isn't willing to accept that they were fooled, so they will never fully own up to that fact.  Then again, Tyson has had training in this area called "acting" and providing everyone with hype and set up for a fight.  Some will remember that Tyson had a stint with the WWF, the most renowned organization for setting up storylines and providing intrigue through different forms.  One of those might be witty dialogue... or possibly some backhanded mud-slinging... maybe some intimidation through threats... does any of this sound familiar to what Tyson had done coming into this Lewis fight?  Through the media for this boxing match, he essentially acted out a WWF type storyline and was able to get Lewis to tag along for the ride.  And, we all got suckered in, it was great.

The match/fight really wasn't much of one, save the first round.  I'd give that to Tyson, due to his aggressiveness and ability to keep Lewis backing off and a bit tepid.  After that, though, Lewis settled down and owned the rest of the fight.  Lennox Lewis has to be one of the most patient heavyweight boxers I've seen in a long long time.  He worked the jab to absolute perfection, so much so that the only way Tyson could get in close was to dive in a with a wild punch and then clutch.  After a few rounds of keeping Tyson off, Lewis' jabs started to take a noticeable effect above Tyson's eyes.  First, it was the right, then the left... bloody, swollen, distracting.  Around the time the 5th-6th round was over and Tyson's inept ringside trainers were working feverishly to stop the bleeding, Tyson uttered a comment to the effect of "I've got nothing."  But, they weren't able to accept what Tyson already had... that it was over and there was no need to send him back out there.  To the enjoyment of Lewis, though, Tyson's team sent him back out there for another hide-tanning and it was starting to look awful.  At this point, it seemed that Lennox just wanted to beat his ass for as long as he could.  Eventually, Lewis ended the horror and decimated Tyson with some bone-crunchingly solid blows and it was over.  Lewis by KO in the 8th round.

Once the fight was over, it was like the world was wondering "Ok, so what's Tyson gonna do?"  We cut to Jim Gray (Jackass) with the mic up to Lewis to discuss the fight.  Lennox pretty much indicates that he's the best and what-not, but, during this, Tyson comes into the picture.  So, the world is now thinking "Oh, here it comes!"  But, instead of any chaos, Tyson seems like a pit bull that's been beaten so badly by it's master that it's now a humble & respecting creature.  Then the unthinkable happens... Tyson pulls back the curtain on the whole charade.  He lets fly the fact that it was all hype and set up generated to create revenue for himself and Lennox, who he has apparently known and been good friends with since he was 15.  He goes further to indicate that he has much love for Lewis and Lewis' Mother.  At this time, I can pretty much say that my jaw had dropped.  Main reason is that Lewis did not seem to deny any of this, that he was in full agreement with what Tyson was saying.  Up to this point, I had figured some of what was going on to be a bit of hype and what-not, but not this deep or to this extent.  So, the reign of terror is over and we're left with the normal Mike Tyson pursuing a possible rematch with Lewis in the future.  Strange things.

My how things change when it's revealed that perception is not reality.
