Betting Frenzy
If week one teaches us anything, it’s nothing
is guaranteed! For those who didn’t notice the
action this past weekend, Bowden’s “championship
contenders” left much to be desired. Florida
State looked reasonably sharp in the first half,
jumping out to a 31-14 halftime lead behind
a strong defensive effort. Problem is the team
forgot that football has four quarters, not
just two. The Seminoles came out flat and Iowa
State stormed back. Sure, FSU survived, but
don’t think that the voters didn’t take note
of a near collision with the loss column to
a very soft team. I saw more than few pissed
off betters last week! (Not me, Wisconsin didn’t
cover my bet for me) As you can see, I had some
success with straight picks, but the lines killed
me. Damn you Wisconsin!

Not much movement in the rankings for this
week. As minor punishment I’ve moved Florida
State down a slot. I think we will see more
of this kind of meltdown because sure the hype
is there, but it’s still the same roster from
last year.

Match up of the Week
University
of Washington
Vs.
University of Michigan
This match up is a blessing for college football
fans. Rarely do we see this type of match up
while the calendar still sits on August. Usually,
the powerhouses are at home paying doormats
money for the privilege of stomping on them
in front of the home crowd. Not the case with
this one. Ann Arbor will be rocking right out
of the gates.
While I generally root for the Huskies I’m
taking Michigan in this one for two reasons:
home field and revenge! Period! Revenge doesn’t
always carry over but last year was humiliating
for Michigan. They controlled the game for a
touch over 3 quarters and blew it in the end
on a blocked field goal touchdown return. That
was in Seattle.
Of course the Wolverines have less stability
on offense than their foes. Washington showed
tremendous offensive ability in their last outing
against Texas in an exciting game. Cody Pickett
is a solid QB and he is surrounded by weapons,
ok ok namely Reggie Williams. This guy has frightening
skills and speed. If his foot is healed up he
will be this offense and must produce.
The real question is Michigan’s offense vs.
Washington’s defense. Michigan will try to spread
the field with motion and short routes in the
flat to give their young QB some confidence.
If Washington can contain the short routes,
Michigan will be in trouble. But I don’t see
that happening and Michigan will hack away and
put up 30 or so points to open the season with
an important W.
