Smacked
up!
Yeah, yeah it was only North Texas but damn
I had fun watching Texas win. The Texas D
was everything I expected but the offense
really needs to show me more next time out.
I think Simms and the O Line decided to not
play after halftime or something. I mean Jesus,
not even 100 yards in the second half with
28 yards rushing for the game. But that aside,
I loved being back at DKR, drinking beer,
and yelling so loud I still don’t quite have
my voice back.
The game of the week had to be Washington
and Michigan. It went score wise, the way
I expected it to go but I did not think Brabbs,
the kicker for Michigan, would finally make
a kick. For those who didn’t watch the game,
Brabbs missed two fairly reasonable kicks
but nailed the game winner as time expired
to save the day and defeat the Huskies. Despite
losing, I think Washington looked fairly sharp
and showed the depth that I thought they didn’t
possess. They did a decent job on D while
the O was questionable at times. Look for
them to run through the Pac 10 starting later
this month.
And Jesus, Virginia Tech did everything possible
to try and hand LSU the victory, but they
never seemed to capitalize on Tech’s mistakes.
The Hokies managed to play sloppy and still
win against a ranked team. I have a feeling
Beemer had some things to say after that game.
Nevertheless, V Tech is now in my top ten
this week.
And what happened to the Buffs!?! I thought
they were a top five team (according to them).
Hell, they’re not even the best team in their
state this week. Colorado State, behind QB
Van Pelt, knocked Colorado (and their asshole
fans) right out of the hearts of voters everywhere.
They dropped into the 17-19 positions in the
major polls and are nowhere in mine. On one
hand, I hate seeing any Big 12 team lose in
non-conference, but on the other I love the
thought of CU fans crying. Let’s check out

Match up of the Week
University
of Miami
vs.
University
of Florida
Larry Coker is proven already as a head coach.
Winning a championship and holding the current
longest winning streak will do that for a
man. Ron Zook, however, is not proven, yet.
Zook looks to take a big step towards gaining
national respect when the Gators host the
Hurricanes at the Swamp this weekend.
Zook started nicely last weekend with a 51-3
pounding over Alabama-Birmingham. But let’s
just say that Miami is a tad bit better than
Al-Birm (trust me on this one). Miami will
arrive at the Swamp with the swagger that
comes when you win 23 games in a row. And
they don’t look to stop now.
The Gator faithful might be a tad nervous
but don’t hold your breath waiting for them
to admit it. They’ll be in full voice and
support the Gators. Believe it or not, currently
the Gators are one point favorites over the
champs.
Zook knows to win Grossman must have a big
day. If there is a weakness to Miami, the
lack of experience and depth of the secondary
is that reason. Florida’s prolific passing
game features Grossman and receiver Taylor
Jacobs. Jacobs can play too! Head 246 receiving
yards last week, breaking the school single-season
record set by Carlos Alvarez in 1969.
Miami hasn’t lost since September 9th
of 2000 when they dropped a game to Washington,
34-29.
The Hurricanes have won the last three meetings,
including a 37-20 victory in the Sugar Bowl
two seasons ago in which Dorsey threw three
touchdown passes. One interested sideline
observer will be quarterback Brock Berlin,
who transferred from Florida to Miami in the
spring. Berlin will be eligible to play for
Miami next season.
The all time series is dead even at 25-25.
As noted in my picks above, I’ve chosen Florida
to win the game but Miami to cover the spread.
That’s right; Miami will cover the spread
but lost. If you do the mate, I pick Florida
to win by a single point. I give the Gators
the edge on venue alone. The Swamp is a tough
place to visit and the fans will be loud and
rowdy as Zook tries to write another chapter
in UF lore.
Upset of the Week
Pay attention!!! I say the tide rolls into
Norman and leaves with a W!
Oklahoma could easily overlook a once proud
Alabama Program that’s kind of down due to
probation. But as far as I’m concerned, Bama
is still stacked with talent and the remnants
of the SEC champion squad of 99, so never
count them out. I think the Bama defense will
wreak havoc on the sloppy OU offense. If that
happens, Bama will keep the ball on the ground
and win a low scoring affair. Fuck OU!
