Playoff
Bracket
Some very interesting matchups today. A couple surprise
teams have jumped into the playoffs and hell, with
a first round bye even. Parity works wonders on consistency.
Who's for real, who's overrated? Here's what I think...
Philadelphia
Eagles at Chicago Bears (4:00PM, EST)
This game does nothing for me. I don't see either
one of these teams having a chance at winning the
Super Bowl. I'll probably watch this game on Mute
while playing some video games or writing literature
or dusting. You've got the Eagles, who are basically
a one man show on Offense with Donovan McNabb. The
guy's good, but give me a break, does everyone else
on the team like to stand around or what? I see him
probably standing in the pocket and throwing interceptions.
If he leaves, Urlacher will rattle his brain and make
him look stupid. Which would be pretty cool, considering
how much I hate the Eagles. (Cowboys fans should see
a trend here with the teams I hate) The Eagles have
a really good Defense, but I've seen them look porous
at times, so I'm not sure how much faith I have in
them. Now, to the Bears... ahh, yes. Their Offense
starts and stops with the A-Train, Anthony Thomas.
This guy will eat your soul if you try to stand in
his way when he's running the ball. The one area of
this team that I think will be a huge negative is
the quarterback position. They had a revolving door
this year of average chumps due to injuries and what-not.
Miller has shown flashes of good plays, but that's
all he is. An average QB with the ability to put together
a big play or two, and who can manage the game. With
the Bears Defense, maybe that's all they need. Of
course, impaling Donovan McNabb on a rusty camera
tripod might make the game easier, too. That usually
doesn't happen in the NFL, though. Shame shame.
Pick: Bears, 20-17
Oakland
Raiders at New England Patriots (8:00PM, EST)
The Raiders kick ass. So does Jon Gruden. It should
be snowing or some shit and people are talking about
how California teams don't play well in cold weather/snow.
Fuck that. This isn't the 49'ers or the Chargers.
This team isn't built like a bunch of sissies. I do
realize that the Patriots have won their last 3 at
Foxboro Stadium (Would somebody shoot whoever named
it that please??), but I don't give a shit. With the
way parity works and teams rising and falling at the
whims of the wind, some records don't mean anything
anymore. I consider this to be one of them. Maybe
that's my Raiders' minded self coming out, but the
Raiders can run the ball, they can pass, and they
can play Defense. And, more importantly, they do a
good job at it. Plus, with the savvy veterans they
have on their team, they can get the job done, no
matter what pressure is on them. The big story in
this game is Tom Brady and his big year coming out
of nowhere. Fuck him. I hope he gets sacked 20 times.
I've got no time for feel-good stories. This is the
NFL. Hit or be hit. Go Raiders! Win one for Lyle!
Pick: Raiders, 87-3 (Yep, same as last week,
don't fault me for being ambitious)
Full Playoff Picks :
AFC Championship Game - Baltimore at Oakland
NFC Championship Game - Chicago at St. Louis
Super Bowl - Baltimore vs. St. Louis
Super Bowl Champion - St. Louis Rams
So, that's my take. It may not be the most insightful
or in-depth, but it's what comes to mind and what
I think should play into these games. If not, I'm
wrong. I could be completely wrong with what I say.
I've been wrong before. But, I tend to forget that
kinda shit, so yeah, I'm always right. Or not.
