Welcome. Ozzy and I are back for the
2nd Round. I know you’re excited,
aren’t you? Anywho, you’ll notice that
in my last NHL Update, that I had mistakenly
seeded the St. Louis Blues as the 5th
seed, and Chicago as the 4th.
Well, that’s fixed now and fuck the Blackhawks,
anyways.
. . .
WESTERN CONFERENCE
(1)
DETROIT RED WINGS vs. (4) ST. LOUIS BLUES
Ozzymadeo : A classic battle
between two primary colors. As much as
I like the color blue, Scotty
Bowman is always out for blood as
in blood RED.
Plus, St. Louis tends to choke
like a porn star who takes a bit too much
if you know what I mean.
Gallion : I love/hate the Red
Wings. It’s a very complex situation
that goes back for years, so I won’t explain.
I will say this, though… the first hockey
player that I ever liked was Steve
Yzerman, back when I was 13 (1990).
But, I’m a die-hard Dallas Stars
fan, so yeah, makes it tough. Enough
reminiscing, let’s get on with it. The
Wings are loaded and on a roll right now. After losing 2 straight and pretty
much getting outplayed against the Canucks
(A very suspicious team name) in those
games, they came back with 4 straight
solid games and closed the door. I would
expect that to carry through into this
next series against the Blues. St. Louis has their own streak going currently, but it’s
not as strong. The ‘Hawks were
definitely outmatched in that series and
the Blues got great goaltending
and rolled ‘em after the first game, which
was a speed bump. If Brent
Johnson can find another groove, that
could push this series to 7, but if that
doesn’t happen, I expect the Wings
to take it in no more than 6 games.
Pick : Red Wings (Both)
(2)
COLORADO AVALANCHE (Quebec Nordiques)
vs. (3) SAN JOSE SHARKS
Ozzymadeo : Nordiques don't know what a shark is and Sharks don't know what a
nordique is. As long as the Quebec
Avalanche don't wear those god-awful
third jerseys, they'll likely win. Nothing
pisses off a shark more than an ugly third
jersey. Except a home or an away jersey.
They're only thugs, anyways. Fuck ‘em.
Gallion : It is known that I hate
Peter
Forsfag. The Sharks should
have a good time beating the shit out
of him, considering they are the dirtiest
team in the league. A random positive
thought there. I don’t really have a
whole lot to say about the Sharks,
except that I hate them immensely and
I wish failure on their team from now
until I die. Colorado looks like they’re starting to click, and getting Hejduk
back should help their cause. Give me
Colorado in this one and it should be pretty physical, too. Death to Marchment.
Pick : Ozzymadeo – Nordiques,
Gallion – Avalanche
EASTERN CONFERENCE
(3)
CAROLINA HURRICANES (Hartford Whalers)
vs. (8) MONTREAL CANADIENS
Gallion : Raleigh and Montreal…
this should be great. I’m still surprised
as to how well the ‘Canes handled
the Devils in that first round.
Unfortunately for the whole Eastern Conference,
the Devils were one of the only
teams built to handle the West. The Canadiens
are a high-flying team, although they
lost Zednik
to the cheapest of cheap
shots by Kyle
McLaren. The ‘Canes have
enough guns of their own, so this should
make for an interesting series. Both
goalies are strong and can carry their
teams. I’m taking Montreal, but
Carolina should give them hell.
Ozzymadeo : Classic hockey as
the Hurricanes continue to remember
their heritage. But in doing so, they
realize they were the Hartford
Whalers. And then they go back and
realize they're the Carolina Hurricanes.
Montreal in a sweep.
Pick : Canadiens (Both)
(4)
TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS vs. (7) OTTAWA SENATORS
Gallion : Going into the Playoffs,
I wouldn’t have considered the ‘Leafs
a bunch of thugs, but after watching that
opening round, I can’t help but think
that way. What a mess they made of the
Islanders by gooning them to injury
hell. CuJo
flat out sucks right now and couldn’t
stop a beach ball. Toronto desperately
needs Mats
Sundin back to help them get some
pucks behind Patrick
Lalime of the ‘Sens, who is
in opposite shape of the opposing netminder.
He allowed 2 goals in 5 games last series,
and only 1 of those in regulation. Going
strong right now. If he keeps it up,
this series will be pretty short. I’ll
take the Senators here in no more than 5 if Sundin doesn’t make it back.
Ozzymadeo : Things are going well
for the Senators but in a freak
streak of Bud Selig-like logic, the Senators
contract mid-series, letting the Maple
Leafs win by default.
Pick : Gallion – Senators, Ozzymadeo – Maple Leafs
. . .
Remember, these picks shouldn't be used
for any betting purposes. But, if you
do use our picks and win, feel free to
mail us some cash money.
