CAPTURE REPORT
June 14, 2001
We profiled him once and we were just about
ready to profile him again. But when accused
sex offender Monty Boston heard through
relatives that his face would once again
appear on America's Most Wanted, cops say
the pressure was just too much. He decided
to turn himself in. On Thursday, June 14,
2001, the escaped prisoner surrendered himself
to federal authorities at San Diego-Tijuana
border.
Monty Boston had been behind bars in Jerome
County, Idaho awaiting trial on charges
of sexual abuse of a child and misdemeanor
battery. In November 2000, he masterminded
an escape sheme involving two other inmates.
They beat a veteran guard nearly to death
and escaped. Two of the inmates turned themselves
in, but Boston fled. It is believed that
he originally hid out in California where
his 15-year-old girlfriend came to visit
him. During that visit, the girlfriend became
pregnant. When she returned home to Idaho,
her father (whom Boston once tried to strangle),
decided his daughter should cooperate with
police at all costs. She has not been charged
with any crime.
In December 2000, Boston was profiled on
Americas Most Wanted, but nothing
of substance came from our feature. Then
in late May, in preparation for another
airing, our show interviewed the pregnant
girlfriend, her father and the prison guard
who amazingly survived. Cops say that Bostons
relatives informed him that he would be
on television again. He was in Guadalajara
when cops say Boston decided it wasnt
worth looking over his shoulder
all the time. He then surrendered without
incident at the border.
Boston now faces additional charges of unlawful
flight to avoid prosecution, battery of
an officer, and failure to appear. He will
be transported from San Diego County where
he is being held, back to Jerome County,
Idaho where he will stand trial.
